The Iranian Students’ Association at the University of Alberta (ISAUA) and Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies (MEIS), in collaboration with the Iranian Heritage Society of Edmonton (IHSE), the Canadian Centre for Ethnomusicology (CCE), and the Department of Political Science, cordially invite you to attend a special gathering in the 47th anniversary of the first women uprising in postrevolutionary Iran:

Two months after the massacre of several thousand protesters, the widespread injuries inflicted on many more, and the arrest of tens of thousands in Iran in January 2026, we gather on International Women’s Day, on the 47th anniversary of the first women uprising in postrevolutionary Iran, to honour and commemorate the lives lost to state violence. We come together to condemn the brutality inflicted upon peaceful protesters, to acknowledge the people of Iran’s right to protest, and to honour their courage and enduring quest for democracy, justice, and a dignified life.
