Reyhaneh Javadi
PhD student, Sociology

Thesis topic: She examines Iranian women’s struggle for rights in a Muslim country as a “social non-movement”.  Focusing on the everyday struggles of women who continue to push the boundaries of the gendered policies of the state, she asks whether and how individual attempts by women justice professionals and ordinary citizens to reclaim their rights have resulted in broader structural changes in laws and legal procedures.

Project:Narratological Study of Suhrawardi’s Mystical Narratives

In this project I focus on the manifestations of Suhrawardi’s theory of intuitive ontology through narrative structures and symbols, and the influence of this ontology on the transformation of the substance of symbols. Such manifestations underscore the relationship between language and mystical experiences and the role of dialogue in the process of self-understanding in mystical experiences. I work on narratological and semiological aspects of Suhrawardi’s mystical narratives in the context of Islamic philosophy. In addition, I intend to use my analysis of Suhrawardi’s narratives as a point of departure in bringing the neglected aspects of his doctrine into contact with Western philosophy. I believe that the results of my study can start a new debate and interaction between Islamic and Western philosophical traditions.
